Dishroom Clerk

About the Role

The Dishroom Clerk is a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-run kitchen. This position ensures equipment, dishes, utensils, and the work area are kept spotless to support the team in delivering great food and service.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one.
• Wash department equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, and pans thoroughly and consistently.
• Handle food safely and ensure the work area is always clean and neat.
• Remove trash in a timely manner and take department garbage to the compactor or designated area.
• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
• Report to work when scheduled and on time.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
• Ability to communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team to keep the kitchen clean and running smoothly.

Qualifications

• No education requirement.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
• Where applicable to the role: Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
• Where applicable to the role: Exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
• Where applicable to the role: Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties.

Working Environment

• Kitchen environment with prolonged standing.
• Exposure to noise, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals or solvents, temperature extremes, and possible electrical hazards.
