Founding Engineer-Vindexa
AI Fund
About the Role
Vindexa is seeking its first engineering hire to be the technical backbone of an AI-powered compliance platform for the clean energy industry. This role involves making architectural decisions, setting engineering standards, owning the codebase, and building AI-powered workflows. You will work directly with the CEO and operate with significant autonomy, leveraging AI coding tools as force multipliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Product Engineering
- Architect, build, and ship full-stack features across a React/TypeScript frontend and Supabase/PostgreSQL backend.
- Write production-quality code, using AI coding tools to accelerate the development cycle.
- Make and defend architectural decisions, including data modeling, API design, security, performance, and scalability.
- Maintain code quality, testing standards, and documentation.
- Build AI Agents and Automation Workflows
- Design and implement AI agents and multi-step automation pipelines for document ingestion, payroll validation, issue detection, and remediation.
- Work with LLMs (e.g., Google Gemini, Claude) for intelligent extraction, classification, and validation.
- Build robust, observable, production-grade AI workflows with error handling, retry logic, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
- Stay current on AI engineering trends and adopt relevant tools.
- Be the Engineering Standard
- Establish scalable patterns and practices for the growing team.
- Ensure rigorous security for data handling (PII, SSNs, payroll data), authentication, authorization, and audit logging.
- Instrument the system for logging, monitoring, error tracking, and performance.
- Eventually recruit, mentor, and lead additional engineers.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Non-Negotiables:
- Genuinely AI-native engineer, proficient with AI tooling (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code).
- Strong full-stack capability: React/TypeScript frontend, Node/TypeScript or equivalent backend, comfortable with SQL and relational data modeling.
- Experience building production-grade AI agents and automation workflows.
- Strong architectural judgment.
- Security-minded approach to handling sensitive data.
- Independent operator.
- Strong Signals:
- Experience with Supabase, PostgreSQL, and serverless/edge function architectures (Deno a plus).
- Demonstrated history of shipping meaningful software at startup pace.
- Experience with document processing pipelines (PDFs, Excel, Word, structured and unstructured data).
- Comfort working in new domains.
- Excitement about the clean energy transition.
- Current Stack:
- Frontend: React 18, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, React Query, React Hook Form
- Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions), Deno runtime, TypeScript
- AI / Agents: Google Gemini, Claude API, custom Edge Function agents
- Tooling: Cursor, Vercel, Resend, Linear, GitHub
- Testing: Vitest, React Testing Library, pgTAP
Qualifications
- This is not a role for someone who needs heavy direction or structured processes.
- This is a full-stack position, not purely frontend or backend.
- You will build and own AI work, not hand it off to a separate ML team.
- Fast-paced startup environment.
Compensation
- Meaningful equity upside with standard 4-year vesting and a 1-year cliff.
- Comparable acceleration protections will be discussed.
- Santa Monica office.
