Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products, encompassing all steps within a formal product development process.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines.
- Execute conceptual and detail design, including 3D modeling of parts and assemblies.
- Optimize designs based on manufacturing processes (DFM), assembly, and test.
- Perform sizing and selection of components (motors, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components, etc.), material selection, and application of design standards.
- Conduct calculations and analysis (structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, tolerance stack-up, etc.).
- Create detailed drawings and apply GD&T.
- Write formal reports and deliver presentations to team members and management.
- Collaborate with team members in the validation of new designs (design and build of test stands, writing of test plans, analysis of test results, etc.).
- Contribute to design review meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Manage design risk mitigation, including participation or facilitation of FMEA.
- Contribute in a fast-paced design environment.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary experts including Analysis, Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, and Validation/Test.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- 3D CAD software (e.g., Unigraphics or others) is an asset.
- MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio/Project – nice to have).
- FEA.
- GD&T.

- Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong sense of ownership.
- Ability to multitask (scheduling and prioritizing tasks).
- Creative ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts (e.g., selection matrix, TRIZ).
- Demonstrated learning abilities and strong research capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a highly cohesive team.
- Commitment to working with integrity and honesty.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- A strong desire to learn about mechanical design and possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
