Associate AI Developer

About the Role

St. Onge Company's Application Development team builds and maintains internal tools. The team is central to St. Onge's AI strategy, leading AI adoption and transforming how the company works. This entry-level developer role is for someone curious about AI and eager to apply it practically to build better tools faster. You will contribute to the company's broader AI adoption by identifying, evaluating, and rolling out AI tools to improve efficiency for engineering and administrative teams, shaping St. Onge's approach to AI.

Key Responsibilities

• AI Discovery and Implementation

• Contribute to AI efforts through idea sharing, process definition, priority setting, best practice documentation, and serving as an AI resource.

• Research and evaluate AI tools, models, and platforms against business needs, recommending adoptions, pilots, or rejections.

• Build proofs of concept and production integrations for AI features, including LLM-powered features, document processing, and automation.

• Collaborate with engineering and administrative teams to identify repetitive or time-consuming tasks suitable for AI reduction.

• Build and extend AI-powered automations and solutions within Microsoft 365, including Copilot, Copilot Studio, Copilot Cowork, SharePoint, Power Automate, and Teams.

• Assist in rolling out AI tools company-wide, providing setup, documentation, training materials, and hands-on support.

• Track adoption and impact to measure effectiveness.

• Adhere to data security, privacy, and responsible-use practices, particularly with client data.

• Application Development

• Develop and maintain features for the internal web platform using React, Node.js/Express, and Django.

• Write and optimize SQL Server queries and stored procedures, including those for ERP data.

• Research future database strategies, including cloud migration considerations.

• Assist with deployments, testing, and troubleshooting in an IIS-hosted, Azure AD-authenticated environment.

• Support reporting needs in Power BI where AI or automation can be applied.

• Reporting: Power BI
• Version Control: Git (nice to have)
• CI/CD: Basic experience (nice to have)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript or Python).
• Some exposure to web frameworks like React, Node.js, or Django through coursework, projects, or internships.
• Basic SQL skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint, Teams, and Power Automate.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools such as LLM chat assistants, coding assistants, or AI APIs, and a genuine interest in their application at work.
• Clear communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
• Willingness to learn quickly and work independently on open-ended problems.

Nice to Have:

• Experience calling LLM APIs, writing prompts for production, or building simple agents/automations.
• Experience building Power Automate flows, Power Apps, or SharePoint solutions, or working with Microsoft Copilot or Copilot Studio.
• Familiarity with SQL Server, Azure and Azure AD, or IIS.
• Exposure to Power BI and DAX.
• Experience with other modern languages like C# or Go.
• Interest in supply chain, logistics, or consulting.
