About the Role
Waymo is hiring for a 2027 Summer Intern focused on PhD research in Perception Foundation Models. This role is part of the Waymo AI Foundations team, which develops machine learning solutions for autonomous driving. The team focuses on areas including reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, generative modeling, Bayesian inference, hierarchical learning, and robust evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- ML experiment design
- ML modeling and iteration
- Evaluation and interpretation of results
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Python proficiency
- Familiarity with modern ML techniques (e.g., transformers, diffusion models)
- Familiarity with at least one ML framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field
- Preferred: Evidence of research output (e.g., top-tier publications)
- Preferred: Exposure to robotics, perception, or AV technology
- Preferred: Familiarity with world modeling
Note: This will be a hybrid onsite internship position.
