Scientific Application Specialist
DIGAIT
About the Role
We are looking for a scientifically minded, hands-on application specialist to configure and maintain an R&D data management platform for our client in Europe, with a primary focus on formulation development workflows and scientific data structures. This role is not primarily a traditional LIMS administration or sample-management position. It focuses on translating real-world formulation and materials R&D processes into practical, structured, and scalable configurations within Uncountable. You will work closely with formulation scientists, R&D teams, IT, and data science colleagues to ensure that formulations, raw materials, experimental workflows, test methods, specifications, and results are represented accurately and consistently in the platform. The ideal candidate combines a background in chemistry, materials science, formulation development, or a related scientific discipline with experience in configuring scientific software, structuring experimental data, and improving R&D workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulation workflow and platform configuration
- Configure Uncountable to support formulation development, experimental workflows, and scientific data capture.
- Translate formulation processes into platform configurations, including formulation structures, ingredients, raw materials, properties, units, specifications, test methods, and results.
- Configure templates, data fields, relationships, workflow logic, and data uploaders to meet R&D requirements.
- Work with scientists to improve how formulations are created, compared, iterated, evaluated, and documented.
- Test configurations and ensure they accurately represent scientific processes.
- Scientific data modelling and governance
- Establish consistent data structures, naming conventions, units, metadata, and reference data.
- Ensure relationships between formulations, raw materials, experiments, process conditions, and test results are maintained.
- Improve data quality, traceability, reusability, and readiness for analytics and machine learning.
- Stakeholder collaboration and adoption
- Gather requirements from scientists and translate them into workable platform configurations.
- Conduct user testing, training, onboarding, and troubleshooting.
- Document configurations, workflows, and operating procedures.
- Coordinate configuration changes and continuously improve the user experience.
- Platform integration and support
- Coordinate with IT and technical teams on integrations with instruments, LIMS, ERP, PLM, and data platforms where required.
- Support issue resolution, release testing, change management, and platform operations.
- Contribute to the rollout of established configurations to additional laboratories or R&D teams.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Uncountable (primary platform)
- LIMS, ERP, PLM (for integration coordination)
- Familiarity with APIs, data imports, system integrations, and data analytics.
- Experience with agile delivery, user acceptance testing, and change management.
Qualifications
- A degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, formulation science, or a closely related field.
- Experience with formulation development, materials R&D, experimental workflows, or scientific data management.
- Experience translating scientific or laboratory processes into structured digital workflows, data models, templates, or application configurations.
- Strong understanding of scientific data, including materials, formulations, experimental parameters, measurements, units, and test results.
- Ability to work directly with scientists and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into practical solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Hands-on experience with any material informatics platform, particularly its formulation and R&D capabilities.
- Experience configuring ELN, formulation management, scientific data management, or other R&D platforms.
- Experience with formulation data from industries such as chemicals, coatings, polymers, adhesives, batteries, consumer products, food, or pharmaceuticals.
- Important: Experience with a traditional LIMS alone is not sufficient unless accompanied by relevant formulation/R&D knowledge and demonstrable experience configuring scientific workflows or data models.
