Avionics Engineer
Rendezvous Robotics
About the Role
Rendezvous Robotics is solving the problem of spacecraft size constraints with electromagnetic self-assembling tiles, enabling bigger and more powerful spacecraft. This is an early career role for electrical and computer engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Getting up to speed on designing electronics for space (radiation, thermal vacuum, derating)
- Designing digital, power, and mixed-signal boards for spacecraft
- Schematic capture and PCB layout, reviewed with senior engineers and carried through fabrication and assembly
- Board bring-up: first power-on, debugging, fixing, and documenting learned lessons
- Developing test fixtures, cable harnesses, and scripts to exercise hardware
- Collaborating with firmware and software engineers
- Participating in integration and environmental testing
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Schematic capture
- PCB layout
- Bench equipment (scope, multimeter, bench supply)
- Ability to read and interpret datasheets
- KiCad or Altium
- Exposure to power electronics (regulators, battery systems, motor drivers) or high-speed digital interfaces (USB, Ethernet)
- Embedded C or Python for board bring-up and testing
Qualifications
- BS or MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, completed by summer 2027
- Two years or less of relevant professional experience (internships and co-ops do not count)
- Solid grounding in circuits, analog, and digital electronics
- At least one PCB designed yourself, from schematic to working board
- Comfort with bench equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership in an engineering student organization (e.g., Formula SAE, rocketry club, CubeSat/satellite team, robotics team, Solar Car), especially with subsystem ownership through to competition or flight
- An internship or co-op focused on hardware design
ITAR Requirements
Applicants must be a:
- U.S. citizen or national
- U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder)
- Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157
- Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158
- Or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
