Buyer

About the Role

The Buyer is a full-time, on-site role based at Thakur College of Engineering and Technology in Mumbai. The Buyer will be responsible for coordinating and executing procurement activities for academic, administrative, and technical requirements, including laboratory equipment, office supplies, IT hardware, and services. The Buyer will work closely with department heads, the finance team, and vendors to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement that supports the college’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Identifying requirements from various departments.
• Sourcing suppliers.
• Requesting and evaluating quotations.
• Negotiating favorable terms.
• Raising purchase orders in line with institutional policies.
• Tracking deliveries.
• Verifying invoices against orders.
• Maintaining accurate purchasing records.
• Supporting periodic audits and budget reviews.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Office productivity tools (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, email).
• Ideally, procurement or ERP systems.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in an educational institution or similar organization.
• Strong skills in vendor sourcing, quotation evaluation, and basic negotiation for pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
• Ability to maintain accurate purchase records, track orders, and coordinate with finance for invoice verification and payment processing.
• Familiarity with procurement policies, basic contract terms, and adherence to institutional and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on meeting deadlines.
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications in procurement or supply chain are an advantage.
• Ability to work on-site in Mumbai and manage multiple purchasing requests in a dynamic academic environment.
