About the Role

itrvl is a travel itinerary and booking platform used by travel designers to plan luxury safari and adventure trips across Africa and beyond. Our content is what travellers read before and during their journeys: destination guides, lodge descriptions, and trip documents.

The Role

We're looking for a writer first: someone with a sharp ear and great taste. Much of our first-draft copy is produced with AI, and you'll be the person who edits it until it reads like it was written by someone who knows and loves these places. You'll start with destination descriptions for our client itineraries, then help across our wider content, including photo selection and light image and video work, as you grow into drafting your own copy. This role is remote for now. Our office is in La Jolla, so there's potential to collaborate in person as things grow.

What You'll Do

  • Edit and humanise AI-drafted copy so it reads naturally and sounds like us
  • Bring taste and judgement: know what to cut, what to sharpen, and when something just doesn't sound right
  • Fact-check claims flagged as uncertain, using reliable sources
  • Draft new copy as you learn our voice: descriptions, taglines, and marketing content
  • Select and curate photos for lodges, activities, and destinations
  • Help with light image and video editing in Canva and Adobe
  • Keep work organised in shared Google Sheets and Docs

What We're Looking For

Must Have

  • Excellent writing and editing: clear, concise, and able to adapt to a voice and style guide
  • Comfortable writing in UK English. All our copy uses British spelling and style (travellers, colour, organise), and we'll help you learn the differences
  • Good taste in words and images: you can tell great copy (or a great photo) from a good one, and explain why
  • Hands-on experience with AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar), and a strong instinct for what makes AI copy sound like AI
  • Marketing or promotional writing experience (class projects, student media, and freelance work all count)
  • Attention to detail and care about getting facts right
  • Openness to feedback and a drive to keep improving

Nice to Have

  • Interest in travel, especially Africa, wildlife, or conservation
  • Journalism, English, communications, or marketing studies
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe (Photoshop, Lightroom, or Premiere)
  • Comfort in Google Workspace

Details

  • Paid internship: $17/hr, around 10 hours a week, flexible around classes
  • Remote, with a La Jolla office for occasional in-person collaboration
  • Students and recent graduates welcome
  • Real portfolio work: your writing will be read by travellers around the world
  • Potential to grow into a larger writing role
