This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, requiring regular presence on the shop floor and adherence to all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment in the mill, including rolling mill machinery, gear assemblies, bearings, couplings, and other production line components.
- Performing routine inspections.
- Troubleshooting mechanical issues.
- Replacing worn parts.
- Aligning and calibrating equipment.
- Supporting scheduled shutdowns and preventive maintenance activities.
- Close coordination with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime, ensure safe operations, and improve equipment reliability.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in fitting, assembly, and maintenance of industrial or mill equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and basic engineering schematics.
- Knowledge of alignment techniques.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Basic welding or fabrication skills (preferred).
- Familiarity with safety practices in heavy manufacturing environments, including lockout/tagout and PPE usage.
- Prior experience in steel plants, rolling mills, or similar heavy industry maintenance roles is an advantage.
- Ability to work in shifts.
- Ability to respond to breakdowns promptly.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Good physical stamina and willingness to work in an industrial setting with machinery, noise, and heat.
Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualification such as ITI/Diploma in Fitter, Mechanical, or a related trade/discipline.
