Demand Planner
Oats Overnight
About the Role
The Demand Planner builds the forecast that the rest of the company runs on. This role is built for someone early in their supply chain career, including recent graduates. You will help predict what our customers will buy across retail, club, direct-to-consumer (DTC), and marketplace channels, so that production, purchasing, and logistics plan around real demand instead of guesses. You’ll own a set of channels and items, maintain the statistical forecast, gather input from Sales, Marketing, and Finance, and track forecast accuracy. You’ll work closely with Supply Planning, Sales, Marketing, and Finance to turn promotions, new items, and customer orders into a clear demand picture.
Key Responsibilities
- Forecasting + Demand Analysis
- Build and maintain statistical forecasts by item, customer, and channel across retail, club, DTC, and marketplace.
- Apply historical sales, seasonality, and trends, and adjust for promotions, price changes, distribution gains and losses, and new item launches.
- Update the forecast on a regular cadence and explain the drivers behind changes in demand.
- Monitor retailer point-of-sale and shipment data, DTC order trends, and marketplace sales to spot demand shifts early.
- Cross-Functional Input + IBP Support
- Gather and document input from Sales, Marketing, and Finance on promotions, launches, and customer plans, and challenge assumptions with data.
- Prepare forecast materials and reports for the monthly Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process.
- Partner with Supply Planning so production and materials plans reflect the latest demand picture.
- Flag demand risks and opportunities, such as spikes, shortfalls, and excess inventory exposure.
- Forecast Accuracy + Reporting
- Measure and report forecast accuracy and bias by item, customer, and channel, and dig into the biggest misses.
- Build recurring reports and dashboards that give Sales, Supply Planning, and leadership a clear view of demand and inventory coverage.
- Document forecasting assumptions and processes.
- Continuous Improvement
- Clean and maintain item, customer, and forecast master data in planning and ERP systems.
- Identify ways to reduce manual work and improve forecast quality, and use data and AI tools to automate routine analysis.
- Contribute to the ongoing buildout of the demand planning function as it scales.
- Other duties as assigned.
