Produce Clerk

About the Role

At Hy-Vee, our produce department is one of the first impressions we make on every customer who walks through the door, and our Produce Clerks play a big role in making it a great one. In this role, you'll keep the department stocked, fresh, and inviting while delivering friendly service that keeps customers coming back. Whether you're rotating product, checking in deliveries, or helping a customer find what they need, your work makes a real difference every single day.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, assisting them with their needs, and going the extra mile to make their shopping experience a great one
• Review the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and replenish and rotate product to maintain quality standards
• Ensure an adequate product supply is ready and on hand; develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs for the department
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Prepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times
• Remove trash in a timely manner and assist with general department upkeep
• Order product and supplies and price products for customers as needed
• Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
• Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines
• Pitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Night & Weekend Shifts Required
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail
• Basic math skills including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers
• Ability to contribute positively to the team
• Ability to learn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department procedures
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Qualifications

• Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers
• Less than high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience accepted
• Frequent standing and walking throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
