Master Data Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled MDM Functional Expert with deep experience in MDM assessment, process designing, operating mode design, and supporting enterprise-wide master data solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong functional knowledge of master data domains along with deep expertise in MDM solutions like SAP. This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, data governance teams, and technical architects to deliver high-quality, scalable master data solutions.

Location - PAN India (Genpact)

Key Responsibilities

• MDM Functional Consultant Process Assessment & Current-State Analysis
• Lead discovery sessions with business and IT stakeholders to understand existing master data processes across domains (Customer, Product).
• Map end-to-end data flows including creation, validation, enrichment, approval, distribution, and archival.
• Identify process inefficiencies, duplication, manual workarounds, and data quality gaps.
• Assess current data governance maturity, including roles, policies, and stewardship practices.
• Evaluate supporting systems (ERP, CRM, legacy tools) and integration points impacting master data.
• Perform data quality assessment using profiling metrics (completeness, consistency, accuracy, timeliness).
• Document as-is process maps, pain points, and risk areas.
• Target Process Design (To-Be State)
• Design standardized, scalable master data lifecycle processes aligned with business objectives.
• Define workflows for:
• Data creation & onboarding
• Validation & approval
• De-duplication & matching
• Data retirement
• Introduce automation opportunities (workflow tools, rules engines, validations).
• Align processes with MDM platform capabilities (e.g., governance workflows, golden record management).
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
• Establish KPIs and SLAs for process performance and data quality.
• Operating Model Design
• Define the MDM operating model (centralized, decentralized, or hybrid/federated).
• Establish roles & responsibilities, including:
• Data Owners
• Data Stewards
• Data Custodians
• Governance Council
• Design governance structures:
• Decision-making frameworks
• Escalation paths
• Data standards and policies
• Define interaction model between business units and IT.
• Create RACI matrices for key master data processes.
• Define service model (shared services, CoE – Center of Excellence).
• Transformation Roadmap Development
• Develop a phased roadmap for MDM implementation and process transformation.
• Prioritize initiatives based on:
• Business value
• Complexity
• Risk
• Define key milestones:
• Foundation (governance setup, data standards)
• Pilot domain rollout
• Scale across domains/geographies
• Identify dependencies (systems, integrations, organizational readiness).
• Define quick wins vs. long-term strategic initiatives.
