About the Role
- Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products, encompassing all steps within a formal product development process.
- Contribute in a fast-paced design environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines.
- Execution of conceptual and detail design, including 3D modeling of parts and assemblies.
- Optimize design based on manufacturing processes (DFM), assembly, and test.
- Sizing and selection of components such as motors, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
- Material selection and application of design standards.
- Perform calculations and analysis, including structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, and tolerance stack-up.
- Create detailed drawings and apply GD&T.
- Formal report writing and presentations to team members and management.
- Work with team members in the validation of new designs, which includes the design and build of test stands, writing test plans, and analysis of test results.
- Contribute in design review meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Design risk mitigation, including participation or facilitation of FMEA.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary experts in Analysis, Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, and Validation/Test.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- 3D CAD software (e.g., Unigraphics and/or others).
- MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and strong presentation skills.
- Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong sense of ownership.
- Ability to multitask (scheduling and prioritizing tasks).
- Creative ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts (e.g., selection matrix, TRIZ).
- Demonstrated learning abilities and strong research capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a highly cohesive team.
- Commitment to working with integrity and honesty.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- A strong desire to learn about mechanical design and possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Well-rounded with hands-on mechanical ability.
