About the Role

MITRE's Systems Performance and Evaluation Department is seeking an Associate Data Scientist to advance and apply innovative data science and analytical techniques to solve critical national challenges. This role supports the development and deployment of nationally important solutions through Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Systems Architecture and Requirements Engineering, and System-of-Systems and Systems Thinking practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage and grow analytical, mathematical, data science, and systems engineering expertise to support the analysis, design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and systems-of-systems, as well as mission analysis for federal agencies.
  • Use understanding of data science, systems and mission engineering, quantitative methods, and sponsor needs to determine areas where MITRE can have an impact.
  • Apply modern methods and tools such as Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Mission Engineering, and Mathematical Modeling to assess capability needs, requirements, architecture, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches.
  • Evaluate and compare alternative architectures and approaches using qualitative and quantitative techniques; explore large trade-spaces and analyze trade-offs.
  • Identify and develop metrics and analytical methods to measure and analyze relevant system and data properties, such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, and maintainability.
  • Support requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes.
  • Perform data analysis, modeling, and system design and development, including software development, systems modernization, and architecture.
  • Support multiple tasks across several government-sponsored projects in a small- to large-team environment.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Familiarity with programming languages and analytical tools such as Python and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) concepts.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data analysis, and modeling.
  • Interest in complex, multi-disciplinary data and analytical problems.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools and concepts in a variable environment of government sponsors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • This position requires a minimum of 3 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.
  • Advanced degree in related field of study.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or socio-technical-level).
  • Experience with Digital Engineering integration through internship, research, or academic projects.
