About the Role

Starlink is designing, building, launching, and operating the world's largest constellation of satellites to provide fast, reliable internet. This role is for New Graduate Engineers in Mechanical disciplines at the Starlink facility in Bastrop, a high-growth site focused on terrestrial hardware and next-generation satellite technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own Starlink hardware from conceptual design through high-volume production.
  • Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization.
  • Design and develop production lines for manufacturing products, including robot end effector design, process development, control system design, and automation programming.
  • Refine production systems to create high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for optimizing product output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical system problems, formulate maintenance protocols, service schedules, and coordinate material procurement for machinery upkeep.
  • Challenge assumptions and work to find simple solutions to complex problems.

Mechanical Teams

  • Product Design: Own Starlink consumer hardware for enterprise, commercial, residential, and roam sectors.
  • Gateway Design: Own Starlink ground station hardware from design through deployment and operation.
  • Process: Develop and implement advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., PCB fabrication, silicon packaging, solar-cell processing).
  • Manufacturing: Design production lines for high-volume unit production and continuously improve processes, output, and yield.
  • Reliability: Spearhead failure analysis and root cause efforts, partnering with design and production teams.
  • Controls: Lead multi-disciplinary projects in machine design, robotics, motion systems, and factory health monitoring.
  • Facilities: Improve factory systems (HVAC, plumbing, building structures, construction) to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Satellite Design: Own the mechanical and structural design of Starmind Satellites.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience with mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing (internship or extracurricular experience is applicable).
  • Graduating in the class of 2026 or 2027.
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, structural analysis, and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience with CAD and/or finite element analysis (FEA) software packages.
  • Experience with Six Sigma and basic failure analysis tools and methods (X-ray, cross-section, polishing).
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.
  • Exposure to production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (e.g., motion systems, dispense systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, injection molders, die casters).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

ITAR Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee, or eligible to obtain necessary U.S. Department of State authorizations.
