AI Network Automation Engineer intern
ByteDance
About the Role
AI Network Automation Engineer intern (Global Physical Network Infra) - 2027 Summer
About the Team
ByteDance Networking focuses on hyperscale data-center networking solutions by integrating innovative ideas from network architecture, SDN, network virtualization, switch software/hardware co-design, and high-speed networking. The team designs, builds, and operates global, intelligent network infrastructure for high availability, scalability, and high-performance, powering popular apps like Douyin and TikTok. Interns will gain marketable software development and/or network operation experience in data center networking at massive scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop software and tools to enhance automation and improve efficiency in IDC network implementation and operations.
- Build AI-enabled automation assistants (e.g., LLM-powered runbook execution, chat-driven tooling, and intelligent ticket/work-order automation) with appropriate safety controls and auditability.
- Analyze network data and create software solutions using principles from computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
- Leverage AI-assisted analysis (e.g., anomaly summarization, incident triage support, log/telemetry interpretation) by integrating LLMs or AI services into data pipelines and operator workflows.
- Work closely with software development teams to plan, design, and iterate network platforms.
- Design and iterate AI features such as prompt flows, tool/function-calling integrations, evaluation/guardrail strategies, and feedback loops to continuously improve automation accuracy and operator experience.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Proficient in at least one back-end programming language: Python/Go/C/C++/Rust.
- Familiar with mainstream SQL and NoSQL database working principles.
- Skills in database querying and data structure optimization.
- Hands-on experience integrating LLMs/AI APIs into backend services (e.g., AI-assisted automation endpoints, RAG pipelines, or tool-using agents).
- Curiosity, motivation, and a strong thirst for knowledge, with keen interest in cutting-edge technologies.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Basic understanding of network knowledge (e.g., OSI model, TCP/IP).
- Highly interested in analyzing, troubleshooting, and automation-related systems.
- Experience applying AI to these areas (e.g., AI-assisted root cause analysis, incident summarization, automated remediation suggestions, or natural-language interfaces for network/ops tooling).
- Familiarity with common AI engineering practices: prompt/version management, LLM observability, offline/online evaluation, and integrating AI assistants into CI/CD or developer productivity workflows.
