Frontend Software Engineer Intern
Skydio
About the Role
Skydio's mission is to make the world safer and more efficient through autonomous drones. Remote Flight Deck (RFD), Skydio’s browser-based piloting experience, is relied upon by public safety, critical infrastructure, and enterprise customers for rapid response. As a frontend intern on the RFD Platform team, you will contribute to building this experience, which involves the interface, video, telemetry, and backend services. The RFD Platform team develops the browser platform used by remote pilots, including live video, telemetry, the map, and flight controls. As an intern, you will ship production features and have opportunities to investigate problems beyond the frontend.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Design and implement pilot-facing features to enable faster, safer decisions during flight.
- Leverage curiosity, technical skill, and a collaborative mindset to advance the use of autonomous drones for productivity, creativity, and safety.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality, impactful features.
Project Examples
- Develop the multi-cockpit view for simultaneous drone piloting.
- Implement camera controls like click-to-focus for locking focus and exposure on moving targets.
- Add a map layer for flight-path breadcrumbs showing the drone's historical flight trail.
- Render AR bounds around subject tracks and enable user interface for drone vehicle following commands.
