About the Role
The HCA Nurse Residency Program at HCA Florida Largo Hospital is a year-long program designed to provide hands-on experience and develop valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be supported by nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents, fostering learning and the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. This paid program provides formalized learning experiences including advanced clinical training, monthly educational sessions, preceptorship, hands-on simulations, mentoring, and evidence-based practice projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with departmental requirements and scope of practice.
- Collaborate with medical providers and the care team to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using the "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" model.
- Serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
- Assess patient condition during admission and each shift, identifying and reporting changes.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers and document care in the patient medical record.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor for therapeutic response, and intervene as appropriate for unintended responses.
- Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipate needs, and resolve them proactively.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Other certifications may be required during employment.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
- Some travel may be needed for training.
