Frame Design Engineer, Tapeout Operations

About the Role

GlobalFoundries (GF) is a leading manufacturer of essential semiconductors. We are seeking a highly motivated engineer to work in the Global Tapeout and Mask Organization as a Frame Design Engineer. This role supports tapeout operations, including frame design for various technologies and process improvements for enhanced productivity and quality. The position requires collaboration with worldwide Frame and other engineers using semiconductor manufacturing and test tools. The successful candidate will engage in continuous process improvement by applying Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, structured problem-solving, and risk reduction. This role requires working an evening shift (3pm-12am) and supporting weekend and holiday coverage on assigned dates.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in daily operations: facilitating technology frame requirements, frame structures layout, frame generation for chips, ad-hoc change execution, work queue prioritization, and work hand-off across geographic locations.
• Use or customize internally developed and commercially available software tools to enhance design process productivity, including generating input files for automation for Fabs and Mask House.
• Make decisions to hold, escalate, promote, and reject tape out support issues in alignment with FAB, Tape out Logistics Integration, and AEs.
• Interact with teams such as Application Engineering, Product Engineering, Release Team, and Design Enablement to provide a best-in-class Customer Tape-out Operations experience.
• Collaborate closely with FAB and TD Teams to provide solutions for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and improving cycle time.
• Participate in assessing team business processes and suggest continuous improvements and automation opportunities to enhance team productivity.
• Ensure processes are well documented, and failure modes are assessed with mitigation and detection in place.
• Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner, supporting all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Unix shells
• Interest/aptitude to learn domain-specific programming/scripting languages/data formats
• Cadence Mask Compose experience is a big plus
• Virtuoso environment and SKILL Programming experience is a plus
• Device Layout Knowledge/Experience is a plus
• Fluency in English Language (written & verbal)
• Analytical problem solving and decision-making skills

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in a related field

OR

Bachelor's Degree in EE/ECE with 1+ years of industry experience

OR

Engineering Diploma with 2+ years of relevant industry experience

• Ability to communicate and work with cross-geographic, multi-cultural global teams
