About the Role

This role is intended to strengthen offshore MRO engineering capability by supporting digital work-instruction development, repair-scheme definition, illustration work, and continuous improvement activities for gas turbine overhaul operations. The Engineer – Digital Shop Floor Instruction and Repair Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing digital shop-floor work instructions and engineering repair solutions for industrial gas turbine overhaul operations. The role combines technical authoring, process knowledge capture, repair-scheme development, inspection planning, and shop-floor technical support. The Engineer will work with Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Commercial, Purchasing and external repair suppliers to ensure that technical documentation and repair solutions are accurate, practical, controlled and suitable for implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Shop Floor Work Instructions

  • Capture shop-floor knowledge through process observation, interviews, filming, photography and engagement with experienced fitters, inspectors and engineers.
  • Develop standardized digital guidebooks/forms for strip, inspection, repair, assembly and other gas turbine overhaul activities.
  • Convert technical requirements and practical knowledge into clear step-by-step instructions, including tooling, safety, inspection, data-recording and sign-off requirements.
  • Define workflow logic, acceptance criteria, hold points, overcheck requirements and dispositions such as accept, repair, replace, reject or engineering review.
  • Support cross-functional review, shop-floor validation, approval and implementation of digital work instructions.
  • Maintain filming schedules, action logs, delivery trackers and guidebook updates based on review comments, user feedback and operational learning.

Repair Engineering and Repair Definition

  • Develop and update repair schemes, repair definitions and inspection plans for gas turbine components.
  • Assess component defects, non-conformances, dimensional results and inspection findings to determine suitable repair or disposition requirements.
  • Define repair processes including material removal, blending, welding, machining, coating, heat treatment, dimensional restoration and final inspection.
  • Support repair trials, shop-floor implementation, technical queries, NCR assessments, MRB activities and return-to-shop investigations.
  • Prepare technical packages for internal teams and external repair suppliers, ensuring adequate process control, traceability, quality and intellectual-property compliance.

Requirements & Tech Stack

Key Competencies

  • Ability to convert engineering requirements and practical shop-floor knowledge into clear, controlled and executable technical instructions.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T principles and dimensional tolerances.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain and external suppliers.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills, with the ability to present engineering information clearly to relevant stakeholders.

Technical Expertise

  • Understanding industrial or aero-derivative gas turbine operation, overhaul processes and component repair requirements.
  • Experience in repair-scheme development, inspection planning, non-conformance assessment and Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Experience with digital work-instruction, document-control and engineering systems such as Solumina, VKS, Truecontext etc., Teamcenter, PDM, SAP and Microsoft Office applications.

Professional Attributes

  • Demonstrates sound engineering judgement when resolving technical and operational challenges.
  • Takes ownership of assigned deliverables from information capture and development through review and shop-floor implementation.
  • Is detail-oriented, adaptable and committed to safety, quality, technical integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Works collaboratively, shares technical knowledge and responds constructively to feedback from engineering and operational teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is advantageous but not essential.
  • Previous experience in aerospace, industrial gas turbines, rotating machinery, power generation, heavy engineering or an MRO environment.
  • Experience in component repair engineering, repair development, technical authoring, manufacturing engineering or digital work-instruction development.
  • Working knowledge of quality-management systems, engineering change control and document-control requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and task-delivery skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary and globally distributed teams.
