Engineering Development Program
John Deere
About the Role
John Deere's Engineering Development Program (EDP) for Product Engineering offers graduating engineers opportunities for experience and exposure throughout the company. This program provides rotational assignments to foster an understanding of John Deere's products and services, and to build a network for personal and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
An Electrification EDP supports product analysis, design, and/or testing activities for electric drive components and systems used on vehicles worldwide. Specific responsibilities vary by rotation but may include:
- Electrification system and vehicle development: design, analysis, vehicle integration, and testing of electric drive systems (batteries, inverters, motors, converters, chargers) to meet vehicle performance goals. This includes requirements, system concepting, vehicle integration and interfaces, lab testing of system performance, and vehicle testing of performance.
- Electric machine development: design, analysis, and testing of 250W - 200kW+ surface permanent magnet motors and internal permanent magnet motors, including electromagnetic design, thermal design, high speed structural design, position sensing, and mechanical design.
- Power electronics hardware development: design, analysis, and testing of inverters, converters, and chargers, covering topology, power stage, sensing, thermals, power passive components, and packaging.
- Control systems for motor drives and converters: simulation, implementation, and system testing of new algorithms, control system parameters, physical system modeling, system identification, signal estimation, and advanced diagnostics/prognostics.
- Embedded control system development for electric powertrain systems and products utilizing Model Based System Design methodology.
