AI Software Engineers (Multiple Openings)

About the Role

VX is adding several AI Software Engineers to the team to design, build, and deploy AI capabilities across our product portfolio. These roles suit engineers who want real responsibility. You will build LLM-powered agents and applications, integrate them into operational systems, and demonstrate them to the customers who use them. Expect a mix of rapid prototyping and production engineering, with your work visible across every program VX supports.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build LLM-based applications, including autonomous agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and tool-calling workflows.
• Integrate commercial and open-source models into VX products.
• Develop backend services and APIs that connect AI components to operator interfaces and mission data sources.
• Prototype new capabilities quickly, then harden them for deployment in secure and resource-constrained environments.
• Evaluate model performance and improve accuracy, latency, cost, and reliability through testing and prompt and pipeline optimization.
• Implement security controls and follow secure development practices appropriate for defense systems.
• Write clear technical documentation, including architecture descriptions and contract deliverables.
• Support live demonstrations, technical reviews, and customer engagements with government stakeholders.
• Collaborate with design and front-end teammates to deliver complete, operator-ready products.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs or open-source models, whether from a job, research, coursework, or your own projects.
• Working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals: data structures, APIs, version control with Git, and testing.
• Ability to explain technical work clearly to both engineers and non-technical customers.
• Work you can show us: code, a portfolio, a demo, or a product you helped ship.
• Background in machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision, however you gained it.
• Experience with agent frameworks, vector databases, embeddings, and RAG architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including government cloud environments.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Front-end or full-stack experience.
• Experience running models locally or at the edge on limited hardware.

Qualifications

• VX hires for demonstrated skill. Degrees and years of experience are not requirements.
• Clearance Sponsorship: VX will sponsor your security clearance if you join without one. Security clearances are open only to U.S. citizens.
• All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.

Work Environment and Growth

• These positions are fully remote.
• Occasional travel to customer sites and events may be required.
• Engineers who grow with VX can move into technical lead roles on new programs as the company expands.
