About the Role
Opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist in New Orleans. This is a day shift position suitable for both experienced professionals and new graduates.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and analyze specimens using standardized protocols.
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests and calculations essential for disease diagnosis and treatment.
- Manage quality control.
- Calibrate and maintain analytical equipment.
- Perform phlebotomy when needed.
- Conduct and interpret routine and specialized lab tests accurately within set timeframes.
- Manage instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, ensuring all quality control data is documented and corrective actions are taken when necessary.
- Ensure strict adherence to regulatory standards, safety guidelines, and accreditation requirements.
- Support laboratory operations through inventory management and participation in performance improvement initiatives.
- Communicate professionally with healthcare teams and adapt interactions to meet the specific needs and privacy of patients.
- Maintain a safe working environment when handling biological specimens and hazardous materials.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong computer proficiency, including experience with data entry and Windows-based applications.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with a heavy workload, including moving objects and standing for extended periods.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science is required.
- Must hold a valid Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice.
- Applicants with a temporary trainee permit or Lab Assistant license will be considered, provided the full Generalist license is obtained within 90 days of starting.
- Professional certification from ASCP, AMT, or AAB as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technologist must be secured within 90 days of employment.
