System Development Engineer, STRADA

About the Role

The Service Transformation and Deployment Automation team within Amazon Web Services (AWS) Networking focuses on removing manual touchpoints from service operations. Systems Development Engineers are key to discovering innovative ways to automate and scale services, driving stability, consistency, and sustainability of the network with a high security bar. The team owns a container compute platform in the border network, network device access and locality software, and a business intelligence platform for service maturity insights. This position is located in Minneapolis, USA.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
• Write high-quality distributed system software.
• Work in an agile, startup-like development environment.
• Collaborate closely with Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast and smooth roll-out of new designs and products, assisting with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.
• Use data to measure success and take responsibility for service quality, striving to prevent faults from impacting customers.
• Utilize strong problem-solving skills, understanding and scoping solutions, and working across teams to drive solutions.
• Contribute to documentation of processes and procedures.
• Learn from others and help grow team members.
• Take ownership, consider tradeoffs, and leverage expertise to ensure tasks are completed.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
• Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.
• Experience with Linux/Unix.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
