Mechanical Engineer
Boom Supersonic
About the Role
Boom Supersonic is hiring early-career Mechanical Engineers with exceptional talent to tackle complex mechanical engineering challenges and work with real hardware from day one. This role offers a level of ownership typically reserved for more experienced professionals, allowing you to be the engineer of record on critical systems and see your work materialize into hardware. You will contribute to the development of two engines: Superpower for AI data centers and Symphony, a medium-bypass turbofan.
Key Responsibilities
- Own mechanical subsystems, including fuel, lube, cooling, and other balance-of-plant systems, from concept through analysis, drawing release, and integration.
- Design components and assemblies that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and testability.
- Plan and support assembly processes, collaborating with manufacturing engineers.
- Design and execute component and system-level tests, including instrumentation, data collection, and result interpretation.
- Collaborate with propulsion, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless subsystem integration.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Hands-on experience with CAD and analysis tools.
- Proficiency with standard 3D CAD modeling (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, CATIA).
- Experience with structural/thermal FEA tools.
- Strong grasp of core mechanical engineering fundamentals: statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, machine design, and fluid mechanics/thermodynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to finish challenging tasks, both academically and outside of school.
Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent hands-on hardware experience.
- At least one internship or co-op involving the design, analysis, or building of real-world mechanical systems.
- Experience with fuel and lube systems, structural hardware, and component testing.
- Experience with assembly processes.
- Previous involvement in projects such as Formula SAE, Baja, Rocketry, or Robotics is a plus.
Work Location: 100% onsite at Boom's headquarters, 6803 S Tucson Way, Centennial, CO 80112.
Compensation: Base Salary Range $102,000 - $128,000 per year.
