Biomed Engineer Mentor for High School Project
Alchemy Education
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated biomedical engineer, electrical engineering student, or engineering graduate to mentor a team of students in developing a prototype for a herniated disc monitoring device. The project involves exploring how electronic components and sensors could be used to monitor spinal movement, posture, or other relevant indicators associated with a herniated disc. The mentor will guide students through the technical design and prototyping process, helping them turn an initial concept into a functional proof of concept.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide students in designing and prototyping an electronic medical monitoring device.
- Recommend appropriate sensors, microcontrollers, and electronic components based on the project's goals and budget.
- Help students understand basic circuitry, sensor integration, and hardware assembly.
- Assist with selecting materials and integrating electronic components into a preliminary prototype.
- Mentor students through troubleshooting, testing, and iterative design improvements.
- Explain relevant engineering principles while encouraging students to take ownership of the project.
Qualifications
- Background in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field.
- Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply.
- Experience with Arduino, ESP32, wearable electronics, sensors, circuit design, or rapid prototyping is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and an interest in mentoring students.
- Ability to guide a student-led engineering project within a limited time frame.
Compensation and Time Commitment
- Compensation: $35-$45/hour
