Engineering Technician 4
Lam Research
About the Role
The SEM Lab in Tualatin provides microscopy services to support Lam’s engineering and development efforts. Through technical development and continuous improvement, we solve difficult analysis problems and leverage efficiencies to increase throughput and reduce time to data.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare STEM samples using FEI/Thermo Fisher Helios dual beam FIB-SEM tools with ifast and AutoTEM software in an autonomy-focused workflow.
- Prepare and image samples in Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) using Thermo Fisher Helios systems.
- Perform FIB-SEM analysis, EDS, and Critical Dimension SEM.
- Follow lab methodology for STEM sample preparation consistent with quality standards.
- Utilize optimal workflows for efficient sample throughput.
- Communicate with lab personnel and external business groups to prioritize sample processing.
- Provide feedback to lab management for continuous improvement opportunities in lab workflows.
- Problem-solving capabilities.

- BS degree in a physical science, or a specialized AS degree or equivalent professional training on materials science and analytical techniques.
- Ability to work a shift schedule.
- FEI/Thermo Fisher Helios dual beam FIB-SEM tools.
- ifast and AutoTEM software.
- Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM).
- Thermo Fisher Helios systems.
- FIB-SEM analysis.
- EDS.
- Critical Dimension SEM.
Qualifications
- Experience operating dual beam FIB/SEM tools, especially in the preparation of thin lamella for STEM or TEM imaging.
- Knowledge of the physics involved with FIB/SEM tools, and voltage/current.
- Familiarity with key developments and materials in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience creating and presenting technical documentation.
- Experience in customer IP protection and sample handling.
- Great spatial awareness for tool operation.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a high throughput environment.
