About the Role
As a Software Engineer III - AI Automation Test Engineer at JPMorgan Chase, you will be an integral part of the Consumer & Community Banking. Collaborating with experienced engineers, managers, and business teams, you will contribute to building digital products and services utilized by engineering partners across the organization. Your role as a test engineering expert will involve enhancing and scaling test automation frameworks, championing modern test engineering practices, and driving automation coverage throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Review requirements, specifications, and technical design documents; provide timely, meaningful feedback.
- Create comprehensive, well-structured test plans/cases; analyze and develop complex test data sets.
- Design, develop, and implement automation scripts, automated tests, and test environments.
- Estimate, prioritize, plan, and coordinate testing activities, including test scenarios and acceptance tests.
- Develop test infrastructure tools across multiple platforms (web, mobile, desktop).
- Partner with developers, program managers, and design teams on technical implementation and user scenarios; identify/eliminate or automate recurring issues to improve operational stability.
- Collaborate with deployment teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
- Monitor and improve testing effectiveness across the SDLC using insights from all stages.
- Automate and maintain in-sprint and regression suites (Java/Cucumber/Selenium, API automation via Java/Rest Assured) and drive UAT automation within front-end frameworks as the tooling point of contact.
- Leverage enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contribute learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
- Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with applied experience.
- Hands-on experience in software testing, QA automation, and developing business-driven development automated frameworks using Cucumber, including writing feature files (Gherkin) and step definitions from scratch.
- Experience in designing and developing UI automated scripts (Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright) and API (REST and SOAP) automated frameworks (RestAssured, SOAP UI), including data mocking and stubbing (Mockito).
- Experience in designing and developing performance testing frameworks (Blazemeter, Apache JMeter).
- Experience in developing mobile automated testing frameworks (Appium).
- Proficient in tools such as Gradle, Maven, Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence, qTest, JMeter/Load Runner.
- Experience in setting up, configuring, and running automated tests in parallel across different environments/browsers/mobile (Saucelabs Mobile and Web Integration, Selenium Grid).
- Experience in automating desktop applications (UiPath, Blue Prism, Ranorex).
- Experience working in a scrum team Agile setting, writing and documenting test cases/scenarios, test execution, defect reporting, and supporting production validation testing.
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot and similar) to accelerate development and maintenance of test automation suites.
- Experience with automated and scheduled deployments via CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins Pipelines) across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Proficient in at least one object-oriented language and SQL; working knowledge of accessibility, security, and resiliency testing.
