About Honest Cyber

Honest Cyber is a growing cybersecurity consultancy building a technology-driven approach to cybersecurity assessments, risk management, compliance, and operational resilience. We're developing our own cloud-based cybersecurity platform using AWS, backend services, databases, automation, and AI-assisted engineering.

Your Role

You'll be responsible for driving the technical implementation of Honest Cyber's platform, working directly with the founder and within established architectural and security standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Cloud Infrastructure and AWS
• Take ownership of day-to-day AWS engineering implementation.
• Maintain and improve infrastructure, deployment configurations, monitoring, and access controls.
• Identify infrastructure issues and propose practical solutions.
• Support secure, reliable, and cost-conscious cloud operations.
• Backend and Database Engineering
• Lead development and maintenance of Python-based backend services and APIs.
• Work with PostgreSQL, database schemas, migrations, and access controls.
• Troubleshoot application errors, integration failures, and database issues.
• Implement existing platform requirements accurately.
• Platform Development and Migration
• Drive the technical transition of existing workflows into our AWS-based platform.
• Understand existing business logic before changing or rebuilding functionality.
• Ensure implementation remains aligned with documented requirements and approved architecture.
• Take responsibility for validating migrated functionality and data.
• GitHub, DevOps, and Security
• Maintain development workflows, branches, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Investigate and remediate identified vulnerabilities.
• Implement automated tests and security checks.
• Ensure engineering changes are tested, reviewed, and documented before release.
• Engineering Ownership and Delivery
• Translate technical requirements into actionable engineering tasks.
• Independently plan and execute implementation activities.
• Identify blockers, risks, and dependencies early.
• Maintain alignment between source code, technical documentation, and approved requirements.
• Provide clear progress updates and demonstrate working deliverables.
• Escalate decisions requiring architectural, security, or production approval.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Strong Python programming skills.
• Hands-on experience with AWS.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL.
• Experience with Git, GitHub, and collaborative development workflows.
• Understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture.
• Ability to independently debug and resolve technical issues.
• Familiarity with application security and cloud security fundamentals.
• Confidence in taking ownership of technical deliverables.
