MCU Networking & Diagnostics Engineer
Source-Right
Role Purpose
Design, develop, integrate, and validate MCU-based automotive communication and diagnostic software, ensuring robust vehicle-network connectivity, standards-compliant diagnostics, reliable fault handling, and traceable delivery across ECU programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and configure MCU communication stacks for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, and transport protocols based on project architecture.
- Develop and integrate diagnostic services using UDS, DoIP, OBD, DTC management, diagnostic sessions, security access, and routine control.
- Configure AUTOSAR communication and diagnostic modules, including COM, PduR, CanIf, CanTp, Dcm, Dem, NvM interfaces, and Ethernet-related services where applicable.
- Translate customer signal databases, diagnostic specifications, and network descriptions into maintainable software configurations and interface contracts.
- Implement network management, wake-up and sleep handling, communication control, timeout supervision, bus-off recovery, and degraded-mode behavior.
- Perform bench, SIL, HIL, and vehicle-level debugging using traces, bus logs, diagnostic logs, and MCU runtime measurements.
- Ensure bidirectional traceability from networking and diagnostic requirements through design, implementation, configuration, and verification evidence.
- Coordinate with system, BSW, application, validation, cybersecurity, and customer teams to resolve interface issues and deliver production-ready releases.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong embedded C development and debugging experience on automotive microcontrollers.
- Hands-on knowledge of CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, DoIP, UDS, ISO-TP, OBD, and vehicle network management concepts.
- Experience with AUTOSAR Classic communication and diagnostic BSW configuration, integration, and issue analysis.
- Ability to interpret DBC, ARXML, ODX, CDD, diagnostic extracts, signal matrices, and customer interface specifications.
- Proficiency with bus analyzers, debuggers, diagnostic testers, oscilloscopes, and log-analysis methods.
- Good understanding of ASPICE engineering practices, functional safety awareness, cybersecurity constraints, and disciplined defect resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape, DaVinci Configurator/Developer, EB tresos, or equivalent automotive tools.
- Exposure to bootloaders, secure diagnostics, OTA or flash programming, Ethernet test tools, scripting, and test automation.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent relevant industry experience may also be considered.
Expected Leadership Behaviors
- Own networking and diagnostic delivery outcomes with clear interface governance, risk communication, and timely escalation.
- Promote reusable configurations, coding discipline, peer reviews, automation, and evidence-based engineering decisions.
- Coach engineers in protocol analysis, systematic debugging, customer communication, and cross-domain issue resolution.
