About the Role
The Project Technical Support III (Mechanical/Design Engineer) position at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Design & Manufacturing Kancheepuram (IIITDM Kancheepuram) is a Centre of Excellence for technical education and research. The institute focuses on design- and manufacturing-oriented engineering education, integrating information technology with core engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design 3D models for miniaturized medical device enclosures, precision lens mounts, and handheld imaging probes using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Perform 3D printing of mechanical components and custom probe housings.
- Iteratively refine designs for clinical ergonomics, heat dissipation, and structural integrity.
- Assemble custom mechanical housings with optical components (such as C-mount/S-mount lenses, polarization filters, and LED arrays) and imaging sensors.
- Perform high-precision optomechanical alignment.
- Liaise with specialized external fabrication facilities, PCB manufacturers, and industry partners to source materials and outsource high-precision, medical-grade manufacturing.
- Conduct structural, thermal, and durability testing on prototyped diagnostic instruments.
- Prepare and maintain detailed engineering drawings, design iteration logs, and technical reports for ICMR project compliance, technology transfer, and regulatory testing.
Qualifications
- Experience with medical device design and development.
