About the Role
Waymo is hiring a 2027 Summer Intern for the ML Frameworks and Efficiency subteam within the Systems Intelligence and Machine Learning (SIML) team. This role focuses on scaling autonomous driving technology by delivering state-of-the-art ML capabilities, efficient infrastructure, and an ecosystem for rapid innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the problem the current LPM model is trying to solve and its details.
- Improve/extend the current RL infrastructure to support LPM model training needs.
- Profile and understand slowness, maintain and improve training efficiency.
- Identify promising new RL technologies and integrate them into the infrastructure.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Fundamental understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning.
- Familiar with modern frameworks: JAX, Flax, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Strong software development skills with Python.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ML or RL through hands-on projects.
- Experience with large-scale ML system infrastructure.
- Experience working with autonomous driving or relevant technologies.
