Job Role: Web Design & Development Intern

Reports To: Web Development Lead / Project Manager

Role Overview

Support the design, development, maintenance, and optimisation of modern business websites and web applications. Intern will work on real-world projects, gaining practical experience in UI/UX design, frontend development, backend integration, responsive design, website performance, and search engine optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

• UI/UX Design

• Design modern, professional, and user-friendly website interfaces.

• Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and page layouts using Figma.

• Develop mobile-first, responsive designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile.

• Maintain consistent branding, typography, colours, and design components.

• Improve user journeys, navigation, accessibility, and conversion-focused layouts.

• Frontend Development

• Develop responsive websites using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

• Assist with React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and other modern frontend technologies.

• Convert Figma designs into functional web pages.

• Implement interactive components, animations, and smooth transitions.

• Ensure browser compatibility and responsive behaviour.

• Backend & CMS Development

• Assist with WordPress and WooCommerce website development.

• Support basic PHP, Node.js, database, and API integration tasks.

• Configure website forms, booking systems, and third-party integrations.

• Assist with website functionality updates and bug fixes.

• SEO & Website Performance

• Implement on-page SEO best practices.

• Optimise page loading speed, images, and website assets.

• Support Core Web Vitals improvements.

• Implement appropriate meta tags, heading structures, schema markup, and internal linking.

• Test website performance using Google PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse.

• Website Testing & Maintenance

• Perform functional, responsive, and cross-browser testing.

• Identify, document, and resolve website bugs.

• Assist with website content updates and regular maintenance.

• Support hosting, domain configuration, SSL, and website deployment under supervision.

• Maintain documentation and track development tasks.

• Project Collaboration

• Work closely with designers, developers, and project managers.

• Participate in project discussions and design reviews.

• Provide regular updates on assigned tasks.

• Use Git/GitHub for version control.

• Complete assigned development tasks within agreed timelines.

Required Skills

• Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Understanding of responsive web design and UI/UX principles.
• Familiarity with Figma or similar design tools.
• Basic understanding of WordPress or another CMS.
• Willingness to learn modern web development frameworks.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively.

Role Boundaries

Intern will work under supervision. Production deployments, security-sensitive changes, payment integrations, and major architectural decisions must be reviewed and approved by the supervising developer.

Role Objective: Gain hands-on experience across the complete web development lifecycle while contributing to the delivery of professional, high-performing, user-friendly websites and digital products.
