Podcast Researcher
The Attention Co.
About the Role
The Attention Co. creates podcasts with founders, leaders, experts, and people with experiences worth understanding. We’re looking for a researcher who enjoys following an interesting question until they understand it well enough to ask a better one. You should regularly listen to thoughtful English-language podcasts and be curious about subjects such as business, science, health, psychology, and culture. Your work will help the host understand the guest, find a direction for the episode, and ask questions that lead to specific, useful answers.
Key Responsibilities
- Research guests through their work, books, interviews, articles, and public statements.
- Watch or read previous conversations in full to understand what they’ve already discussed and what deserves further exploration.
- Find revealing stories, practical insights, contradictions, and unanswered questions.
- Read audience comments and discussions to understand what people are curious about or struggling with.
- Develop an episode angle that gives the conversation a clear purpose.
- Prepare organised research notes, source references, and concise briefs the host can use.
- Write natural, open-ended questions and follow-ups that encourage examples and honest reflection.
- Check facts, distinguish evidence from opinion, and flag claims that need verification.
- Work with producers and editors to identify ideas that could become strong trailers, clips, or supporting content.
Qualifications
- You read carefully, write clear English, and can explain complicated ideas without losing their meaning.
- You know how to assess a source and keep track of where information came from.
- You should be able to explain why a guest is interesting beyond their job title, what a listener could learn from them, and which questions are likely to produce a worthwhile conversation.
- Curiosity, judgment, and the ability to turn research into good questions matter most.
Experience & Skills
- Experience in research, journalism, writing, or podcast production would help.
- We also welcome strong work from other backgrounds.
What’s in it for you
- You’ll spend time understanding interesting people and subjects.
- Work closely with hosts and producers.
- Help shape episodes before they’re recorded.
- See how your research develops into a conversation.
- Learn from what the audience responds to.
