About the Role

The Alexa Edge AI team is seeking a talented and motivated Applied Scientist to join our newly established team in Bangalore. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning models for computer vision, audio processing, and multimodal semantic understanding, applicable to both edge and cloud environments. You will work on systems that perceive, interpret, and reason about the world, pushing the boundaries of unified multimodal intelligence. This is an opportunity to be a founding member of a new site, influencing team culture, technical direction, and research agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build deep learning models for computer vision, audio understanding, and multimodal semantic fusion, including architectures for joint reasoning across visual, auditory, and textual modalities.
  • Own the full ML lifecycle: problem formulation, data strategy, annotation design, experimentation, evaluation frameworks, model optimization, and deployment at scale.
  • Stay at the forefront of CV, audio ML, and multimodal learning.
  • Identify and apply SOTA techniques.
  • Contribute to the scientific community through papers at top-tier venues (e.g., CVPR, NeurIPS, ICASSP, ICCV, ACL).
  • As a founding member, help hire, onboard, and establish technical practices to define the team's culture.
  • Support science solution design, run experiments, research new algorithms, and optimize customer experience.
  • Set examples for the team on good science practice and standards.
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to deploy algorithms and models into production.

About The Team

The Alexa Edge AI team's mission is to deliver best-in-class, resource-efficient multimodal AI models for perception (vision, audio, speech) and semantic understanding applications on devices like the Echo Show series.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
  • Experience building speech recognition, machine translation, and natural language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government speech projects).
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
  • Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation and natural language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government speech projects).
  • Experience in building models for business applications.

Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 3+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of building models for business application experience.
  • Knowledge of standard speech and machine learning techniques.
  • PhD or work experience in a relevant field (CV, Audio, multimodal language models).
  • Experience with distributed training, model compression, and inference optimization (e.g., pruning, quantization, distillation).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and define technical roadmaps independently.
