- Develop a measurement tool for Technology and Maintenance to check VAR furnace tilt and alignment, helping prevent misaligned melting and potential furnace damage.
- Identify process improvement opportunities during ESR startup to improve consistency and manufacturing performance.
- Analyze process data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential sources of variation.
- Develop or improve standard operating procedures to support consistent execution of manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Operations and Engineering teams to investigate process issues and develop practical solutions.
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing process engineering within ATI’s VIM and Remelt operations.
- Practical experience with data analysis, problem-solving, and investigative failure analysis.
- Exposure to nickel melting technologies, including VIM, VAR, and ESR processes.
- Experience developing standard operating procedures and visual standards that improve quality consistency and execution.
- Opportunities to apply materials science principles to real-world manufacturing challenges.
- Collaboration with both Operations and Engineering teams on projects designed to deliver measurable impact in a short period of time.
- Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time Process Engineer position at ATI after graduation.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong interest in thermo-mechanical processing of metals.
- Familiarity with:
- Excel, Python, or Minitab/JMP for data analysis
- Stress-strain behavior, microstructure-property relationships, and process modeling
- Ability to work in plant and shop-floor environments.
