Engineering Intern
Origin Arc
About the Role
Origin Arc is seeking a Member of Technical Staff – Engineering Intern to build AI software for data center engineering. The company's first product reads drawings, extracts equipment data, and checks supplier offers against project requirements, currently used within an infrastructure group with a $30B+ project portfolio. This role involves working directly with the founders, taking problems from an unclear starting point to working software, engaging with users, and ensuring product reliability. This is an internship with the potential for full-time conversion.
Key Responsibilities
- Build across the product: document processing, AI workflows, backend services, and interfaces engineers use.
- Turn messy drawings and technical documents into useful, traceable information.
- Evaluate model outputs, investigate failures, and build checks to catch mistakes.
- Ship features, observe user interaction, and improve them.
- Take responsibility for testing, deployment, and debugging.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong programming fundamentals.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar codebases or tools quickly.
- Initiative, sharp questioning, and follow-through without detailed task lists.
- Ability to move quickly while caring about correctness.
- Clear communication of uncertainties or blockers.
Useful Bonuses
- Experience with Python, TypeScript, AI/LLM applications, computer vision, document understanding, CAD/BIM, or MEP engineering.
- Relevant research experience, including doctoral work.
Qualifications
- Evidence of substantial building ability (e.g., a product, open-source contribution, research implementation, or ambitious personal project).
- A computer science background is useful, but demonstrated building ability is most important.
