Research Internship: Experimental Interferometry & Spectroscopy with biological samples
Company: PreciQube
Location: Chennai (On-site)
Joining: Immediate preferred
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on experimental optics research intern to build and work on a Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) setup. The optical table, laboratory infrastructure, and necessary components are available. We need someone with good practical experience in optics laboratories who can quickly take responsibility for assembling, aligning, and operating the experimental setup. Initial training and technical guidance will be provided directly by our team. We are particularly interested in candidates who have actually built and aligned optical experiments, rather than those with only theoretical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and align free-space optical setups involving lasers, lenses, mirrors, objectives, filters, and detectors.
- Build and optimize the optical arrangement for SERS measurements.
- Perform Raman/SERS measurements, acquire spectra, and analyze experimental data.
- Troubleshoot optical alignment, signal collection, and measurement issues.
- Maintain the optical setup, document experimental configurations, and report progress regularly.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong hands-on experience working in an optics/photonics laboratory.
- Practical familiarity with laser alignment, optical mounts, mirrors, lenses, and beam paths.
- Ability to independently assemble and troubleshoot optical experiments.
- Background in Physics, Engineering Physics, Photonics, or related fields.
- Basic understanding of spectroscopy and optical detection.
- Preferred but not mandatory: Experience with Raman spectroscopy, SERS, microscopy, spectrometers, or Python-based data acquisition.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to build and operate a real experimental spectroscopy system.
- Direct mentorship from experienced optics researchers.
- Significant hands-on responsibility and exposure to experimental photonics R&D.
