Ellipsis Construction

About the Role

The Project Engineer supports project execution on fast-paced commercial tenant improvement (TI) projects, ensuring projects are set up for success from day one. This role may also involve supporting bid efforts and assisting with business development. It is a field-forward "builder" role, providing direct learning from the Superintendent on-site and supporting coordination, documentation, and day-to-day execution. You will also assist with operational and process-improvement items to keep the business running smoothly.

This is an ideal role for someone early in their construction career who wants to build a well-rounded foundation across field operations, project engineering, estimating, and business development, with the opportunity to grow into deeper project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Project Engineering & Field Support

  • Partner closely with the Superintendent to learn field operations: sequencing, logistics, coordination, and quality control.
  • Support day-to-day field needs such as deliveries, vendor coordination, schedule look-aheads, and issue tracking.
  • Assist with project documentation workflows (RFIs, submittals, meeting notes, daily logs, punch lists) and help keep systems clean and current.
  • Help ensure work aligns with drawings/specs and that questions get resolved quickly and professionally.
  • Support closeout readiness: punch completion tracking, turnover documentation, warranties/O&Ms, etc.

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Deliver a high-touch, professional experience for clients, architects, and trade partners, especially when schedules are tight and priorities shift.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly; set expectations early and provide proactive updates.
  • Represent Ellipsis Construction with a calm, solutions-first approach, especially in the field and during high-pressure moments.
  • Support the Superintendent/Project Manager/Owner in maintaining trust-forward relationships across all projects.

Estimating & Business Development Support

  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, scope review, and estimate preparation for commercial TI projects under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Support subcontractor and vendor outreach, including assembling bid packages, sending Invitations to Bid (ITBs), and tracking coverage.
  • Help level bids and flag gaps or exclusions to support complete, apples-to-apples comparisons.
  • Participate in pre-bid site walks and existing conditions reviews to help reduce downstream surprises.
  • Assist with proposal inputs (as needed): scope narratives, schedule assumptions, qualifications, and pricing approach.
  • Help maintain estimating templates, historical cost data, and lessons learned.
  • May assist with business development efforts, such as preparing qualification packages, RFP/RFQ responses, and project write-ups.

Operational Support To Owner / Company Growth

  • Assist the Owner with operational items that strengthen delivery (examples may include vendor onboarding, process documentation, template/tool improvements, and procurement support).
  • Help reinforce consistent use of Ellipsis Construction standards, checklists, and technology tools.
  • Suggest practical improvements that reduce rework, improve coordination, and elevate the client experience.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry, recruiting, and community events.

Requirements & Tech Stack

Required Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of experience in commercial construction, including internships or co-ops.
  • Basic ability to read plans, specifications, and scopes of work (or a strong desire to learn quickly), and comfort asking smart questions early.
  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through: able to manage multiple priorities without dropping details.
  • Customer service mindset: responsive, professional, clear communicator, and solutions-oriented.
  • Comfortable working in both office/admin settings and active jobsite environments.
  • Comfort with common construction and business tools (spreadsheets, email/calendar, document control, and construction management platforms).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to estimating or bid processes (takeoffs, bid leveling, subcontractor coordination) through coursework, internships, or prior work.
  • Familiarity with TI trades and sequencing (demo, framing, MEP, finishes, etc.).
  • Experience with Procore or a similar construction management platform.
  • OSHA training and/or safety awareness in active jobsite environments.
  • Interest in construction technology and continuous improvement.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Combination of office work and active jobsite work.
  • Ability to move around job sites, climb stairs/ladders as needed, and work in varying site conditions.
  • Ability to lift/carry light-to-moderate materials and wear PPE as required.

Background Check / Site Security Requirement

  • This position may require assignment to projects with specific badging or security requirements, which may require a drug, criminal, or other background check.
