Product Designer
3Design Co
About the Role
We are looking for a curious and motivated Product Designer to join our product development team. In this role, you will learn the ropes by assisting our engineering and industrial design teams. You will gain hands-on exposure to the end-to-end product lifecycle—from brainstorming initial concepts and assisting with CAD models to sourcing components, building physical prototypes, and helping test products before production. If you are a hands-on problem solver eager to learn how hardware development works in the real world, this is an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Ideation & Conceptualization: Participate in brainstorming sessions with the engineering and design team, helping to sketch and develop concepts for new and existing products.
- Part Design & 3D Modeling: Assist in creating and modifying 3D models using Fusion 360, Onshape, and Rhino Design under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Prototyping & Sourcing: Help transform digital concepts into physical prototypes. Learn to research, source, and purchase off-the-shelf components, hardware, and materials for prototype builds.
- Product Testing & Validation: Support the team in testing prototypes to evaluate form, fit, and mechanical function, and help record data and observations.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Assist senior engineers and learn how product designs are optimized for manufacturing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Rendering & Visuals: Help produce photorealistic product renderings.
Qualifications
- Relevant education, coursework, certifications, portfolio work, personal projects, or hands-on experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field will be considered. A strong aptitude for design and product development is required.
- Basic experience or coursework in 3D CAD modeling; with Onshape, and/or Rhino is a strong plus.
- A hands-on, mechanical mindset with a curiosity for how physical parts fit and work together.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to help maintain basic bills of materials (BOMs).
- Familiarity with, or an eagerness to learn, product visualization tools such as KeyShot and Adobe Creative Suite applications, including Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Good spatial reasoning, mechanical aptitude, and a proactive problem-solving attitude.
Nice-to-Haves
- Hands-on experience (from school projects, clubs, or hobbies) operating 3D printers, laser cutters, or other rapid prototyping equipment.
- Previous exposure to setting up tests or working with hardware.
- A digital portfolio showcasing student projects, CAD models, or your design process.
What We Offer
- Mentorship: Direct guidance and training from experienced design and manufacturing engineers who want to help you grow.
- Real-World Impact: Contribute to actual products that will go to market.
- Hours: 30 hr/week
