About the Role
Mercy Hospital, a full member of the Cleveland Clinic Health System since 2021, offers 476 beds and a wide variety of medical specialties. The 5B Orthopaedic Unit cares for planned orthopaedic post-op surgical patients, orthopaedic injuries, and trauma patients not requiring critical care. This collaborative unit works with Orthopaedic Surgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and the trauma team. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients. This position offers opportunities for educational advancement, higher positions, and skills development courses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
- Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheter.
- Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to an RN.
- Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (required during new hire period if not held)
- Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Qualifications
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) (preferred)
- Current nursing student (preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.
- Involves extensive standing and walking.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Work Schedule
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Includes rotating weekends and holidays.
Compensation
- Pay Range Minimum hourly: $18.25
- Pay Range Maximum hourly: $24.95
- This range reflects anticipated compensation for new hires and does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
