AM Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer
GM Performance Power Units
About the Role
GM Performance Power Units is seeking a motivated AM Manufacturing Process Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and quality systems. This role bridges engineering, quality, and operations, ensuring manufacturing processes are clearly defined, properly documented, controlled, traceable, and capable of consistently delivering high-quality parts for high-performance applications. The successful candidate will own manufacturing documentation, ERP/IFS process definition, Quality Control Plans, SOP development, production readiness, and continuous improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain manufacturing routings, travelers, and production workflows within ERP/MES systems.
- Design, develop and implement process controls for special processes to ensure critical process parameters, acceptance criteria, monitoring requirements, and reaction plans are clearly defined and controlled.
- Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, process specifications, and other controlled manufacturing documentation.
- Develop and maintain Quality Control Plans to define inspection requirements, process controls, acceptance criteria, documentation requirements, and reaction plans.
- Support PFMEA development and translate identified manufacturing risks into effective process controls and quality requirements.
- Define and manage product and process Key Characteristics (KCs), Key Process Variables (KPVs), and associated process controls.
- Support configuration control, document control, manufacturing traceability, and controlled process changes.
- Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions for manufacturing nonconformances, scrap, rework, and recurring process issues.
- Partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering, and Operations to ensure processes are manufacturable, repeatable, properly controlled, and efficiently executed.
Key Performance Indicators
- Manufacturing first-pass yield and scrap/rework reduction.
- Manufacturing process stability and repeatability.
- Accuracy and completeness of manufacturing routings and documentation.
- Quality Control Plan and process control effectiveness.
- Reduction in recurring manufacturing nonconformances.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Materials, or related Engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, process, quality, or production engineering.
- Nadcap special process and audit experience preferred.
- Strong experience developing manufacturing documentation, including SOPs, Work Instructions, routings, and process specifications.
- Experience developing and maintaining Control Plans, PFMEAs, process controls, and manufacturing quality documentation.
- Experience with ERP/MES manufacturing systems, preferably IFS Cloud, including routings, shop orders, manufacturing records, and process traceability.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing process validation, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with APQP, SPC, CAPA, NCR/MRB, Lean Manufacturing, and structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D or DMAIC.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar regulated manufacturing quality systems.
- Experience with data analysis and statistical tools such as Minitab, JMP, Power BI, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, organizational, and cross-functional teamwork skills.
Reporting Structure
This role reports directly to the AM Process & Automation Lead.
Because this position requires access to export-controlled technology or information, the successful candidate must be able to satisfy applicable U.S. export-control requirements. This may require verification of status as a “U.S. Person” or eligibility to obtain any required government authorization.
