Sensor Characterization Co-Op
Laminar
About the Role
We are seeking a Sensor Characterization Co-Op to join our team. You will own sensor testing, which includes designing experiments, preparing samples, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting findings to engineering teams. As new sensing technologies are integrated into our stack, rigorous testing and analysis are crucial to improve sensor design, establish noise and drift characteristics, and determine Limits of Detection (LOD) across industry-relevant chemicals.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the sensor R&D team to design testing procedures, execute tests, and analyze data to characterize new sensor performance.
- Support customer-driven use-case exploration, conducting material fingerprinting and concentration tests, analyzing data, and building customer-facing slides.
- Prepare samples at known concentrations, serial dilutions, and emulsifications, adhering to lab-safety protocols.
- Utilize statistical methods to calculate LODs for industrially relevant chemicals.
- Ensure experiment reproducibility by maintaining a lab notebook, writing and refining Standard Operating Procedures, and organizing raw data for future comparison.
- Design, test, and refine calibration procedures for the new sensing stack.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field degree (or pursuing one).
- Detail-oriented with the ability to follow (and constructively critique) experimental procedures.
- Willingness to perform a wide variety of engineering and technician tasks.
- Coursework or experience in chemistry, physics, optical engineering, or a related field.
- Comfort with hands-on lab work and running structured experiments.
- Statistics and data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, or similar.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Familiarity with spectroscopy and electrical impedance measurement.
About You
- You are looking for a dynamic and inclusive work environment with opportunities for growth and professional development.
- You are comfortable with hands-on lab work and running structured experiments.
- You possess statistics and data analysis skills.
- You are willing to get your hands dirty on a wide variety of engineering and technician tasks.
