Surety Underwriting Internship

About the Role

Liberty Mutual Surety is offering an 11-week Surety Underwriting Internship for Summer 2027. This program is designed for individuals interested in careers that combine finance, relationship management, and strategic business decision-making. Interns will work with experienced underwriters to learn about surety bonds, financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management. The internship includes formal training, mentorship, job shadow opportunities, professional development, and an introduction to the Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) curriculum.

Internship Duration: 11 weeks

Potential Start/End Dates:

• May 17, 2027 - July 30, 2027
• June 1, 2027 - August 13, 2027

Key Responsibilities

• Learn how surety bonds support economic growth, commercial development, and infrastructure projects.
• Gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management.
• Assist businesses in securing the bonding capacity needed to pursue opportunities and fulfill contractual obligations.
• Understand how underwriters evaluate financial strength, assess business risk, and make informed decisions.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a comparable field.
• At least one semester remaining in your degree program following the Summer of 2027.
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
• Solid interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated passion for customer service and fostering relationships.
• Availability to work full-time for 11 weeks.
• Permanent work authorization in the United States.

Qualifications

• You are pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or comparable with at least one semester remaining following the Summer of 2027 with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
• You possess strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
• You have solid interpersonal skills and demonstrate a passion for customer service and fostering relationships.
• You must be available to work full-time for 11 weeks.
• You must have permanent work authorization in the United States.
