About the Role

Prime Controls is hiring an Associate Developer to build APIs, integrations, automations, and AI agents that connect business and engineering systems. This role is for an early-career developer, including recent graduates, who are proficient with modern AI development tooling to produce working, supportable software. The role is in the Business Technology Group and partners with Engineering, IT, platform owners, and business groups.

Key Responsibilities

API and Integration Development

  • Build and maintain REST API endpoints exposing project and asset data from internal engineering systems.
  • Implement authentication and authorization using patterns like JWT, Microsoft Entra ID, or API keys.
  • Develop integrations between enterprise platforms (e.g., ERP/MRP, engineering data systems, construction tracking, Microsoft 365, internal tools) using vendor APIs, file exchanges, and scheduled data movement.
  • Write integration code with visible and recoverable failure, including logging, error handling, retries, and alerting.
  • Document endpoints, payloads, dependencies, and support expectations.

AI Agent and Automation Development

  • Build AI agents and assisted workflows against approved platforms (e.g., Claude, Microsoft AI stack) for business processes like document review, data extraction, exception handling, and reporting.
  • Automate manual and repetitive business processes using Power Automate, Python, PowerShell, scripted jobs, and platform-native capabilities.
  • Define and test guardrails for agents that access business data, including access control, write permissions, escalation points, and output verification.
  • Measure the impact of automations with quantifiable results (e.g., time per transaction, error rate, cycle time).
  • Evaluate native platform capability before building custom solutions.

Internal Application Development and Support

  • Contribute to internal applications, including JavaScript-based tools, focusing on refinement, integration, and stability.
  • Fix defects, improve usability, and maintain application deployability for assigned components.
  • Improve user experience on internal tools based on user feedback.
  • Support version control, code review, branching, and release practices.

AI-Assisted Engineering Practice

  • Use AI development tooling as a primary workflow component, including code generation, refactoring, test creation, documentation, and debugging.
  • Review and verify AI-generated output; understanding code functionality is a requirement.
  • Share working patterns, prompts, and reusable approaches with BTG and Engineering.
  • Operate within Prime's AI governance policy.

Collaboration, Security, and Documentation

  • Work with IT on infrastructure, security review, licensing, identity, and hosting.
  • Translate business requests into scoped technical approaches and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Participate in testing and validation, including writing test cases and supporting user acceptance testing.
  • Maintain documentation, handoff notes, and decision records.
  • Route material changes through the Change Control Board and support the Change Management Coalition.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated ability. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Working proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, or C#.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, and basic authentication concepts.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL sufficient to read schemas, write queries, and reason about data relationships.
  • Demonstrated hands-on use of AI development tools to produce working software, with the ability to explain the output and its correctness.
  • Evidence of initiative: projects started and finished without assignment, problems pursued past initial obstacles, and work shipped.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-developers.
  • Willingness to work onsite at the Lewisville headquarters, with occasional travel.

Preferred

  • Internship, co-op, or project experience building or consuming production APIs.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and collaborative code review.
  • Exposure to the Microsoft stack (e.g., Power Platform, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph, Entra ID).
  • Exposure to cloud services, containerization, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Coursework or project work in machine learning, natural language processing, or agent frameworks.
  • Interest in construction, industrial automation, controls, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience turning a manual process into an automated one.

Initial 90-Day Priorities

  • Complete onboarding to Prime's development environment, source control, AI tooling, and AI governance policy.
  • Learn the current system landscape and integration points.
  • Deliver one production API endpoint end to end.
  • Take ownership of one existing internal application component and close a backlog of defects and usability items.
  • Build one AI agent or automation with a measured result.
  • Produce documentation for all work completed.
  • Identify two additional automation candidates.
