Junior Chef or Sous Chef

About the Role

Sipas Cafe, located within Zostel Vilpatti in Kodaikanal, is seeking a Cafe Sous Chef. The menu features a mix of Indian, Western, and Italian cuisine, including wood-fired pizzas. Training will be provided for preparing wood-fired pizzas and other dishes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes.
• Assist in preparing Western and Italian dishes, including pasta, sandwiches, and burgers.
• Learn and prepare wood-fired pizzas.
• Maintain consistency in taste, quality, portion sizes, and presentation.
• Ensure timely preparation and delivery of food orders.
• Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety.
• Manage ingredients, stock rotation, and food storage.
• Minimise food wastage and maintain efficient kitchen operations.
• Coordinate with the cafe team to ensure smooth service.
• Follow recipes, kitchen procedures, and instructions.
• Contribute ideas for menu improvements.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Basic cooking skills in Indian cuisine are essential.
• Previous experience as a chef or cook is preferred.
• Knowledge of Western or Italian cuisine is an advantage.
• Experience in making pizzas is not required; training will be provided.
• Willingness to learn new cooking techniques and work with different cuisines.
• Ability to maintain food quality, hygiene, and consistency.
• Good time management and ability to handle orders efficiently.
• Positive attitude, teamwork, punctuality, and a sense of responsibility.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Good foundation in Indian cooking.
• Enthusiasm to learn Western cuisine, Italian dishes, and wood-fired pizzas.
