About the Role
IBM Research is seeking a Storage Systems Research Scientist Intern for 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct innovative research at the intersection of AI, systems, and storage.
- Tackle fundamental challenges in performance, scalability, and efficiency of storage systems for AI and agentic AI.
- Contribute across the industrial research cycle:
- Developing novel ideas and system designs.
- Building prototypes.
- Evaluating performance at scale.
- Demonstrating real-world impact.
- Publishing findings in leading scientific venues.

- Experience with performance measurement, benchmarking, and analysis.

- Basic understanding of the storage stack in Linux.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (MS/PhD).
- Focus on systems or the intersection of systems and AI.
- Experience with system performance measurement and analysis.
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
- Understanding of LLM technology, distributed inference, llm-d/vLLM and KVCache.
- Designing and implementing distributed systems and storage systems.
- GPU programming.
- High-performance storage systems.
- C++ programming language.
