FOOD SERVICE WORKER, FOOD & NUTRITION

About the Role

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is seeking a Food Service Worker to join their team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assembles prepared food on trays for general and therapeutic diets.
• Prepares special therapeutic nourishments and snacks (e.g., slices fruits, mixes pre-packaged liquid nourishments).
• Maintains tray line in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.
• Delivers food trucks to patient floors and returns them to the dish room.
• Tends and loads dish machines; washes pots and pans by hand as needed.
• Delivers clean dishes and utensils to proper kitchen units.
• Cleans and sanitizes work areas, storage areas, and refrigerators.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment, including disassembling and re-assembling as required.
• Mops floors and performs special cleaning duties.
• Transports food and supplies in bulk.
• Collects, processes, and disposes of trash and garbage.
• Maintains departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Demonstrates customer service attributes: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness.
• Ensures timely, professional, caring, and respectful responses.
• Adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
• Is familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
• May serve food in patient rooms, dining rooms, cafeteria, and catered functions.
• Maintains simple tallies and logs, such as time of delivery and food temperatures.
• Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• English speaking, reading, and writing skills as required by the position.

Qualifications

• 6 months previous food service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of customer service principles.
• Familiarity with the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct, Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

Job Setting/Physical Demands

• Work setting includes patient floors, cafeteria, and kitchens.
• Exposed to heat, wetness, and odors.
• Exposed to steam, electricity, sharp knives, and cutting equipment.
• Requires moderate physical effort, lifting light to heavy objects, and pushing carts.
• Involves frequent prolonged standing/walking.
