About the Role
Bionews, a digital news company, is seeking members of the pulmonary hypertension (PH) community to join its freelance staff of caregiver columnists on Pulmonary Hypertension News. As a columnist, you will share personal essays in a column format to inform, inspire, empathize, and advise patients, caregivers, medical teams, researchers, and the general audience. This is a contract position.
You MUST be a member of the pulmonary hypertension community, caregiver preferred, to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Fulfill 2x monthly deadlines.
- Communicate efficiently with managers and editors.
- Submit 400-800 word drafts adhering to Bionews policies.
- Fulfill revisions requested by editors in a timely manner.
- Complete assigned training.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Prior experience with writing for an audience.
- At least three months’ direct experience with caring for someone with PH.
- Caregivers must be direct relatives, guardians, or spouses.
- Fundamentals of how PH works.
- Swift and independent learner of Internet technology.
- Creative mind capable of regularly generating unique content.
- Time management.
- Advanced creative writing.
- Internet access and use.
- Native or fluent English writing and reading abilities.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Experience in being professionally edited for publication.
- Experienced in generating a blog or column.
- Participation in support groups, internet forums, or community groups relevant to PH.
- Knowledge of the content needs or wants of the PH community.
- Experience in using WordPress for content creation.
- Experience with the Slack communication app.
